WD Raptor SATA WD360 not recognized in Ubuntu Install

January 31st, 2010 · No Comments

I thought I had a bad drive. I had tried installing Ubuntu several times on these drives as a RAID-0 array (4xWD360 10000 RPM SATA drives). It turns out that the dmraid package was somehow causing problems recognizing them. Removing the dmraid package allowed for recognition from the installer when launching it from the live [...]

Getting HQ (High Quality) on YouTube with a Nokia n95

April 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Earlier I posted how youtube changed how they handled mp4 files, which resulted in my video not being classified as High Quality. When Youtube classified the video differently, they made it have a horribly low framerate which was very noticable. After some tinkering around, I found that by simply re-encoding the video at the same [...]

Compiz Fusion on Linux

March 19th, 2009 · No Comments

One of the great things about linux is that everything is modular. In the case of window managers, Compiz Fusion is really coming along to be pretty freaking awesome if you have the computer to handle it. This video pretty much sums up how awesome it is:

Picasa 3 beta for Linux

March 6th, 2009 · No Comments

When my computer blew up, I built out an Ubuntu Hardy box for the meantime. I’m thinking this is what I’ll go with when I rebuild the computer when the warranteed parts come in. I just installed Picasa 3 beta and so far it seems every bit as feature-rich as the Windows version. If you [...]

Do your homework

Your task, should you choose to accept it:

Review Impulse Response: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impulse_response
Get an idea how measuring the impulse response of a speaker system can be used for understanding reflections and their impact on what you hear: http://www.duffroomcorrection.com/wiki/Impulse_Response
This now leads naturally into Time-Frequency analysis, and some pretty graphs to stare at. http://drc-fir.sourceforge.net/doc/drc.html#htoc233 The graphs are shown in [...]

New ‘Carputer’ Project

February 13th, 2009 · No Comments

The computer in the trunk of my car finally gave out. This is the one I’ve been using for Digital Room Correction as well as active crossovers between tweets, mids, and sub. Something probably shook loose but at this point the proof-of-concept stage is over. So out with the roped to the side of the [...]

Nokia N95 as an Asterisk SIP Phone Extension

January 13th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Using the info in this post I was able to get my cell phone to also serve as a VoIP phone. At this point, when I get within range of my home wifi network, the cell phone registers with the server. Once the phone is registered, any calls to our ‘home’ number ring not only [...]

Digital Room Correction - Revisited

April 13th, 2008 · No Comments

So I reinstalled a computer (running linux of course) into my car this weekend. I had been using for a bit in the car, messing around with BruteFIR to do time alignment, correct phase and correct frequency response (highly detailed EQ). The result was good and bad. The lower frequencies were greatly improved, while the [...]

DRC in the Car

August 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments

So I finally got a computer running in my car! Anyways, I’m using it to process the audio and correct for the position where I sit, phase, eq, all that stuff. It’s actually a very involved. Holly took some pictures of me yesterday sitting in the car with a laptop, a computer, mixer, mic and [...]
